If we were having coffee

#WeekendCoffeeShare

If we were having coffee… you’d sit on my long chenille couch, most probably with a small dog on your lap – and I would ask if you minded. I would offer you a slice of my home-baked Victoria cake and ask if you’d prefer tea instead of the coffee. The room would be fragrant with vanilla as I like scented candles – and, of course, there would be the background aroma of baking and hot coffee.

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you of my stressful week where I feel I’m ‘biting off more than I can chew’ because of my chronic poor health, and how that makes me feel inadequate. How I’m constantly frustrated with my lack of endurance and ability. Then I would think I’ve said too much and ask how things really are with you.

If we were having coffee, we would laugh over jokes because laughter is the best medicine. My dogs would all want your attention, and as we eat our cake they would beg at our feet. I would mention my desire to write more fiction, especially the new novel called GIDEON FALLS – the story of a misunderstood little person who was once a gargoyle; though he is still the banisher of demons, the protector of the people.  I would ask you about your dreams or goals.

About Oscar Dandelion

Hi, I'm Faith McCord, writer of the Oscar Dandelion books. I love reading, writing, watching films, looking at architecture and general design, embroidery (especially Elizabethan), spending time with my family. I used to enjoy long walks, bodybuilding, going out, however, since my injury my mobility is seriously impaired, so I'm more of a home-body now. I'm interested in meeting other indie / pro writers, so do say 'Hello' ! :)

it’s cold and rainy in new york now… in bed under the covers now, wishing Oscar could visit me for a while. 🙂

      • It’s been raining here too. My throat is sore so I’ll be off to bed soon myself (it’s getting on for 9.30 pm here). Oscar might visit you he said, if you know of any good waistcoat tailors! I hope you’re taking good care of yourself and eating more than just lentil soup. Speak tomorrow? 🙂 xo

had a hamburger with red wine sauce last night, as a matter of fact. was delish!

… but that was almost 24 hours ago. gotta think of something else; maybe salmon once again. the supermarket near where i live has it extra fresh! maybe with some sort of teriyaki seasoning this time 😀

hope your day’s been well. 🙂 what’cha been up to?

      • Salmon is always good! Those big teddy bears out in the woods eat it all the time. 😉 Teriyaki seasoning? Sounds interesting…is that a secret family recipe? 🙂
Thanks for asking…but had a crappy day yesterday.:( First thing in the morning before I sipped on my Earl Grey, my mum starts nagging. This bad temperedness goes on for half the day, despite me trying to work at what I was doing. Then, by the time this venting just towards me (John she likes!), sizzles out…guess what?! John starts complaining! :/
I hurry to a safe corner. And scream! (The throat is sore again).

aww 😦 sorry ’bout that.. hope today is better and less tense! 🍹

no recipe here :/ was gonna get some high-powered readymade teriyaki sauce from the co-op or something. i didn’t bother cooking either yesterday, was too wiped out. just had some awesome seafood mix from the local chinese takeout place. Scallops, shrimp, crab & lobster w/lots o’ green, crispy vegetables in a light, mysterious liquid medium… lol. way better than what i had in mind to cook, ‘specially when it comes to the vegetables 😀 need to learn to cook like that.

be seeing ya 😇 let me know how your day’s going. o

      • Oh that sounds good, all that fish and crispy veg! We unfortunately don’t have such a place round here – it’s too mushy! – but where I lived in Germany they knew how to cook it. We do fish and chips better, lol.
I’m working on a new picture for the blog, it’s relaxing. 😀
        Today is better thanks. 🙂
I try to be upbeat, people constantly moaning drains my energy.
I want to learn out to cook proper Japanese food, I have a special kit but haven’t tried yet…
        I hope work isn’t tiring you. 🙂

work is great, really. 🙂 i think i need to exercise my lungs and heart a bit more since i haven’t really exercised since late fall. feelin’ like a shell of my former self 👻

looking forward to seeing the new picture! 🎌

      • What does the doc advise re exercise? Are you allowed to really get your heart pumping, or do you have to be cautious? I used to keep slim just by walking lots – everywhere! – and I was drinking beer then! I bought an air purifier this January, oh it’s like breathing fresh air almost. 🙂

cardio is plenty fine. i use a program similar to ‘Dance Dance Revolution’ for exercise on my computer called [Stepmania], and would someday like to stream live footage of it (and other computer stuff I do) as a sticky post on the blog 🙂

      • Sounds good! I used to like the treadmill and the stepper elipsical (sp?) thing. I started strengthening with body building (free weights) my back at 17 because of the weight of my chest However, now, I’m lucky to walk 20 paces because the nerve pain and inflammation get triggered and I stiffen up till I can’t move! It’s crazy, like being in a dream and trying to get away. 😦
Fiance bought me a beautiful mountain bike a while back I just need someone to fix it up for me. I seem to cycle better than walk. 🙂

cycling is WAY easier on the nerves for me too. I can only use stationary bikes though ‘cos every shock of the road gets transferred through my arms to the area that hurts in my left shoulder. 😦

      • By the way, have you played with graphics? I started on the professional Photoshop (ex was art director at advertising agency) and now I’m using Corel Paintshop Pro X4. It’s really good for the price! 😮

i have in the past a lil’ bit. 🙂 been using paint.net (http://www.getpaint.net/index.html) since my college poverty days. 😛

what i REALLY wanna do is play around with sound editing software! 😀 i have some friends who do jam sessions and i’m just the invisible mouse in the corner that records it all on a cell phone, lol. uploading ’em to youtube is all well and good, but i wanna remix it a bit 😉

i see that your book is on kindle unlimited! i used to have a subscription some months ago, didn’t renew it ‘cos times were kinda rough. found some nice books for my 4-year old daughter to read, like… candy’s chocolate kingdom (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Childrens-book-Chocolate-Kingdom-bedtime-ebook/dp/B00VS4JHYC/ref=sr_1_2?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1459959244&sr=1-2&keywords=candy%27s+chocolate+kingdom), she really loved that one after i found some really nice dark chocolate (60% cacao)! will get the subscription today, as there are a lot of other cool books i’ve yet to read.

i remembered your other book covers, too – are the books anywhere online?

      • Are you a musician too? I used to play piano (classical) then learnt the keyboards at 15 with fingered chords. I’ve made up my own songs and enjoyed the mixing process which wasn’t even digital then (late ’80s and early ’90s) with my old Tascam portastudio (I forget the number, my drug addicted brother never returned it! 😦 ). I had so much fun with that. 😀
Mixing is, to me, as enjoyable as the music playing part.
Unfortunately, due to thoughtlessness (not meaness) Fiance accidentally broke my Technics keyboard which I’d had for years… I’m still crying over it. I’m going to have to shell out at least £500. to get one almost as good.
Gosh, you’re so lucky having a daughter. 🙂 I was never able to, hence the dogs! Although I had step children for three years.
Oscar Dandelion is actually for young adults and adults, lol. It’s just very light, fun reading. There’s a couple of things in there, ie. grief, sexuality, adult humour, though hardly any swear words. Thank you, that’s nice of you…I can send you a free copy if you like for an honest review? 😉
The other book covers are mainly part of a compilation of short stories. I stopped half way through. On my web site there is Insommnia http://www.stephaniefaith.net which is completely different to Oscar. It’s dark and trippy! 😮

Maybe she will like The Rainbow Fish? (It’s beautiful!)

  4. I had a great time having tea with you. Oscar is adorable (I believe that it’s him?! ). I can picture myself sitting in your house comfortably, surrounded by the sweet smell of vanilla and laughing our asses off. Reminding you that you’re doing brilliantly and you shouldn’t be so hard on yourself.

    Keep well.

You painted a wonderful picture; I was right there with you sitting on your couch with a chihuahua on my lap. Since I also live with a chronic illness, our time together would be a sweet moment in time when we would both share our frustration and our joy. Next time, you can come over to my place and we will sit in front of the fireplace.

I was hoping to sell them but couldn’t find the right way. I’ve always preferred writing to that kind of art, with music coming second.
I looked up your software and it reminds me of Cubase which I had but didn’t get far with (not the software’s fault). I’ve a newer Tascam studio – this one’s digital!! 😮 – but with other distractions I didn’t progress far…and then I lost my beloved Technics keyboard.
      YouTube’s great for tuition! 😉
I hope you get some good sleep and feel much better tomorrow. 🐻 🎶 💜 😴

i would’t mind commissioning for a still life 😊 i really liked the Salma one, got her broad warm smile down pat. 😍

thanks, i feel really great today!! played ‘Dance Dance Revolution’ on my computer yesterday, which I haven’t done in some months; great cardio exercise without leaving my room (and being exposed to the elements!) ^_^

i might try something else like Ableton, since a lot of people I know really like it. or some other modern-day shortcut software, hehe. researching today, i guess! 😀

wonder whatcha up to for the day. 😉

It sounds like you had a good workout. 🙂
Have you considered playing with synthesizers? 😉
Ah, that’s nice of you, 🙂
As you’re a friend though, I’d have to make something like that a present. I’m a Salma fan! What kinds of still life do you like?
It’s a lazy Sunday…I actually wrote a short story for the blog…and watched the rest of a film I began watching yesterday, Starlet, on Netflix. I liked its uniqueness, realism and warmth. And that’s a chihuahua in it, lol. xo
