I waited for days and days. Days and days. Days and days and days and days and…….
~ CreamScone
How do you explain to the dog whose favourite human, Poppy, will be returning after a few weeks?
“He was there. And, then he was gone. I think the big bags swallowed him up.”
Obviously, we skyped now and again. I said, why don’t you leave your kindle fire here so the dogs can call you direct? We chatted via my laptop, the dogs scattered around and squeezed up. Call her name, she misses you badly!
“I heard him. I looked round. But his body was gone.”
I tried explaining: He’s visiting Canada.
“Canada? What is Canada?”
You know, that cold place.
“Where the dog meat is?”
No, not the fridge.
He left via the front-door. Ever hopeful with muddled dog-logic, her heart burning with love, she races to the top of the stairs to the room he occupies. Just cold absence meets her. Its icy fingers grip her heart.
Poppy is coming back. I cuddle her all the more. I’m a poor substitute, tho’, not the real thing.
“I waited and waited. Waited and waited. Waited and waited and waited and waited… He’s gone. I left him a present under the bed.”
And, one in his shoe.
I know, I know; it’s difficult. You are a good little dog. Poppy is coming back.
Poppy did come back. He returned to a room of stunned dogs. And, all this has been quickly forgotten.

Awwww, she missed her Dad! I bet you missed him too (until you realized you didn’t have to hide your KitKats while he was gone :D)

LOL. He’s actually been better with the chocolate but I was missing some vital chicken (how I love it, sliced with stuffing) just before he left.
CreamScone loves him so much she’s so pleased he’s back. I think we both enjoyed having a little time apart 🙂
I hope you’re doing much better, Kara. I need to catch up with everyone. All the best xo

I’m dog sitting for my sister and brother-in-law starting this weekend and although they will be gone only just over 10 days, the dogs just don’t “get it” and will be waiting by the front door the whole time. I’m fun for a few minutes and tearing up beds works for a few hours but nothing can replace that ache of theirs until the HE returns and takes them for a run.
I can’t even let them out of the minuscule yard as there are three of them and one weighs well over 100 pounds and is just too much dog for “Auntie dru” unless we’re just hanging out on the couch. ~~dru~~

So nice they have Auntie Dru to take care of them 🙂
100+ pounds is a lot for just one dog! Perfect for cuddling up to on the couch.
It’s funny how they get fixated on one human. Xo 🐕 🌷 🐈 🍵 💚

I like reading them. The flash fiction is full of surprises!
Went for a mini walk earlier (with walking stick) and John, Chester and Oscar who mostly wanted carrying after leaving messages at two telegraph posts (dogs form of internet message boards!). So aching a bit as pain levels rise. But the little exercise is good. Thanks for asking. How are you? 🙂
