Me! – looking weary as I do these days 😉

Faith McCord, the author of the Little Lord Oscar Dandelion book series, also lives, like Oscar Dandelion, in Norfolk, England. Right near the sea. But not at Dandelion Hall.

Writing has always been a passion, beginning in childhood, and somehow, later, finding myself going back there. Wonderment being key to all stories. Fantasy, adventure, mystery, humour and horror are favoured genres.

The School of Life is a great teacher; and together with those experiences, including those through various jobs (personal assistant in family firm, bar work, Avon lady, nanny + housekeeper + cleaner, snackbar cook, graphic artist, giving business English lessons and translations-to-English whilst abroad, petrol station worker, carer for the elderly) stories have been inspired and accumulated.

She lives with her life-partner, Mum, and animal children. (Her mum is not her life-partner).

Oscar Dandelion ( International Jewel – and Sandwich Filling – Thief ) is her first completed and latest novel. Available as an ebook via Amazon.

    Faith,
    I have read your newest book’s excerpts. I sincerely hope that you are sending a synopsis and sample chapters to both literary agents and print publishers in both the U.K. and the U.S. in addition to selling it as an e-book. The story is fun, and your writing is witty.

    “Lady Winterton was making noises about joining them too ever since that morning when she had all too hurriedly arose to relieve herself en route to the bathroom but instead aquaplaned, falling bottom first into one of the many buckets…” I must tell you that the word “aquaplaned” sent me into a fit of laughter.

    “The Lady had an hourglass figure but the sand was all in the bottom.” Very clever! The reader gets an immediate image in their mind.

    In the 1990’s, I had two books print published by New York publishing houses. One fiction. One nonfiction. It took dozens of mailings to different publishers and dozens of rejection slips. I was rejected many times, but luckily one editor gave me a written note of what to do to improve the manuscript and soon I was published. What I did wrong: I did not have a literary agent or literary attorney review my contract. If you receive an offer from a publisher, please be sure to have either an agent or attorney review the contract before you sign.

      to take the time to read my book’s excerpt, for your helpful comments and advice. I would love to see Oscar Dandelion also in print with a reputable publisher – and have had thoughts about finding an agent. I understand that in the UK (I don’t know yet about the USA etc) that the Writers’ and Artists’ Yearbook is the best way to go about finding an agent and publisher. I’ve yet to look into it.

    Hi Faith! I just finished reading about Oscar Dandelion and I love it! He’s too cute for words and I can see how he inspired such a wonderful story! 🙂 I am picturing the waistcoats and it’s comical lol it’s amazing how our animal friends inspire us. I have a German Shepard/ Mix who is creeping up on 6 months and he’s quite a handful lol I can relate to the bruises! 😉

        what’s your ideas now you’ve seen the site? btw I’ve just updated it so the site Kettybanda is now incorporated back into ulingana…just one site is much easier to manage. I’ve started a new category for articles on Africa, agriculture, famine, education etc so maybe some graphics there would be great.     Small world — although I live in New Mexico, USA, I spent several months in Mundesley, England, in the 1970s. My former husband was working on an oil rig in the North Sea at the time. I often took day trips to shop in Great Yarmouth and Norwich. I loved England, especially Norfolk County.

      Thank you. Wow, it is a small world! Yes, there was a lot of business with the oil industry off the coast of Great Yarmouth. I went to a small private school (The International) with children of the workers, from all round the world. Norwich is very nice for shopping. I wonder if it’s very hot in New Mexico?

        Sometimes it is very hot here… our summers typically have days and days in the 100s (Farenheit), and it the winters we often get temperatures far below freezing.

        The weather here is extreme. We get dust storms, we get small flash floods. In the six years since my husband and I have lived in this house, our roof had been destroyed three times, once by hail the size of a man’s fist that came from a super cell storm, once by a tornado-warned wind and hailstorm, and last December, two days after Christmas, our roof was ruined by the Goliath blizzard that blew for two days and two nights at up to hurricane strength. We now have a new sturdy metal roof. I hope it holds up!!
