Patio Plants (photos)

2nd June 2020

Photos I took of the various flowers and plants on my patio, including recent additions from a farm shop haul. The patio, although cleared and cleaned, still needs some work – sanding and varnishing the wooden windowsills, filling the empty pots of the multi-coloured tower, re-potting some plants and the shuffling about of plants to new spots.

It doesn’t help that the hose pipe got kaputt, sprouting a length of several holes where the water escapes, gushing out! The new hose pipe is on the way…

Above photo shows a type of pinky-red chrysanthemum, part of the haul.

Above and below photos – Can you believe that there are ORANGE poppies?! Poppies apparently come in varied colours these days, I picked out this fluorescent tangerine one.

It sits next to the Bleeding Hearts plant at the top of the multi-coloured tower. Both plants are from the recent haul. Right next to them is an ambitious sort of clematis, which, yesterday, bloomed dark purple flowers. I was amused it had decided to climb the washing line! Several mini-spiders have built webs in the foliage. At dawn the other day these webs glittered like diamonds.

The above photo shows the bug hotel which is full again of mason bees. The hotel is surrounded by orange Tiger lillies. The big pot at the very bottom houses a type of large, tall-stemmed daisy, of which I forget the name of. Both flowers bloom in the summer each year.

The below photo shows a mixture of ‘blue’ bearing plants – the longstanding flowers of the chives and trumpet-like Campanula, and the more recent addition of the blueberry plant, whose berries are fattening each day. There’s also an abundance of lemon balm which I grew from seed. The lemon balm is getting everywhere all over the patio!

The next photo shows the purple-blue flowers of the Swiss Blue pansy and leaves of the lemon balm, both grown from seed. I’ve never grown pansies from seed before and these were rather difficult to start cultivating. The luscious green leaves are from a type of new potato bought from the supermarket. They were a couple of potatoes that got forgotten at the back of the cupboard! The jar of screws helps weigh down the potato plant pot as we get strong winds here in coastal Norfolk (England).

I love the golden-yellow of the these Biden flowers, also part of the haul from the farm shop. Need re-potting as the pots are too small.

Below is a tea-rose rose ‘Eye of The Tiger’. The petals are pale yellow edged with dark red. When I last counted there were over 20 buds. There is some scent. Part of the haul. We had to drive home with the car roof open and its top covered/protected by plastic bags. My car is quite small.

I really love the below plant, Geum ‘Fiery Tempest’,  because of it’s floaty coral coloured flowers. I had to have it when I spotted it in the farm shop.

Hi, I'm Faith McCord, writer of the Oscar Dandelion books. I love reading, writing, watching films, looking at architecture and general design, embroidery (especially Elizabethan), spending time with my family. I used to enjoy long walks, bodybuilding, going out, however, since my injury my mobility is seriously impaired, so I'm more of a home-body now. 2. This post makes me want to go shopping for some new plants. I miss shopping for flowers in the Spring because our lock down started in March. Two months later when the shops reopened there were hardly any plants around. Maybe I will check with our local nursery in our neighborhood to see what they have. You picked some pretty ones, love all the colors.

    • I hope you find some good ones. I do like what you already have, it’s nice seeing photos of your gardens.

Thanks…I love colours. I’d like more poppies and strawberries now lol. xo
